Decimals and Percentages
Addition is not only like 1+2+3+7 it can also be like 5%+0.4+1.7865 which looks very tricky but it is not really you just need to make them all a decimal!!! So this is how you do it!
- 5% = 0.05
- 0.05 + 0.4 + 1.7865 = 2.2365
Thats it!
- Now lets see why 5%=0.05 because 5% = frac{5}{100} = 0.05!
- Thats why 5%=0.05
Fractions
Adding fractions are very easy after you know how to do them!
Examples:
- frac{7}{20}+frac{5}{20}=frac{12}{20}=frac{3}{5}
- frac{2}{5}+frac{3}{20}=
- frac{2X4}{5X4}+frac{3}{20}=
- frac{8}{20}+frac{3}{20}=frac{11}{20}
We have to multiply the numerator by 4 and the denominator by 4 with the fractionfrac{2}{5} because we need to make both denominators the same otherwise you can not add the fractions together in this case we needed to make the numerator and the denominator 20 that’s why we multiplied frac{2}{5} by 4. See it is easy once you no it!
Tips for Adding Fractions, Decimals and Percentages
Now that we learnt adding fractions, decimals and percentages we can add all of them at once. Here are a few things to look out for before doing these:
- Make sure the Denominators are the same.
- If there are decimals, percentages and fractions make sure you convert them to a decimal, percentage or a fraction.
- When you are adding fractions if you multiply the denominator you HAVE TO multiply the numerator.
Congratulations you have learnt to add fractions, decimals and percentages!!!
